Thanks for the kind words. :-)

S&A is growing on me as well... I think what I'm missing is the faster tempo material -- everything seems to be a smooth, even, mid-tempo pace. Not that that's bad, but I think some of the instrumentals could use to be a bit more "manic".

The chorus of Workin' Them Angels pops into my head a couple of times a day and it's not even my (consious) favorite. I'm leaning towards Spindrift as my current fav. Someone on alt.music.rush posted that the five songs in a row, beginning with Spindrift, is a great stretch. I'd say I agree with that.

It's mature sounding and very well done. I don't feel there's any clunkers so far, but it's missing some of the rousing anthems of days gone by.

First time posting on this blog...I subscribed to the feed a few weeks ago, and I'm just now getting around to posting! There aren't too many good Rush blogs out there.

Anyway, I picked S&A up the day it came out, and it is definitely growing on me. So far, Workin' Them Angels is my favorite, with several others coming in a close second: Good News First, The Larger Bowl, all the instrumentals, and Far Cry.

Interesting... Haven't heard anything regarding what Neil was reading/studying particularly. The item that the link goes to won't be published until June 2007, so its doubtful that he read this specific item. Good overview on the origins of "Snakes and Arrows", however.

...keep in mind that it was Alex Lifeson himself who reportedly first made mention of "Snakes and Ladders" or "Snakes and Arrows" during his radio interview with Jeff Burrows (apparently it was latter edited out from the version which now appears on Rush.net). - MitA
